SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC

The Small Engine Mechanic repairs and maintains company trucks, trailers, and landscaping equipment. Must work variable, flexible, and sometimes extended hours to accomplish required tasks. The mechanic ensures all equipment and vehicles run efficiently, safely, and within manufacturer’s specifications.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Makes 2 and 4 cycle small engine repairs, oil changes, blade sharpening
· Performs basic repairs/troubleshooting/diagnostics
· Oversees inventory control/parts ordering, and shops for most economical parts
· Attention to detail
· Establishes local shop relationships
· Practices excellent customer service and teamwork
· Utilizes own tools
This position requires basic mechanical knowledge of Ford vehicles and small engine equipment utilized in the commercial landscaping industry. Performs oil changes, brake jobs, light replacements, etc. on trucks and trailers. Maintains and repairs mowers and various smaller landscaping equipment, and safely performs blade sharpening. Must be familiar with multiple brands of mowers and 2 cycle equipment.
The ideal candidate must have an understanding of various troubleshooting methods and repair practices which ensure all equipment is running optimally. Repairs must be made in a timely manner to prevent crew down-time and loss of production.
The Small Engine Mechanic is a reliable, dependable, flexible self-starter with a people-oriented approach, who accomplishes tasks under deadlines and with quality standards expected by Ameriscape. The ability to multi-task and function well under pressure is essential.
High School/GED Diploma is preferred.
A minimum of three years’ experience as a Small Engine Mechanic in commercial landscaping is required, with specific experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs.
Valid Florida driver’s license with acceptable driving record is required.
Works outdoors in a shop setting in all types of weather conditions and temperature extremes. Position requires a full range of body motions such as bending, reaching, stretching, and stooping plus sufficient motor skills to utilize tools and perform needed repairs. The ability to safely lift fifty (50) pounds on a regular basis is required.
Proficiency to read and write English and to navigate miscellaneous reports via email and hard copy is required. Must speak English well enough to communicate with crew members, supervisors, customers, members of the public, and vendors. The ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable, but not a requirement.
