LANDSCAPE LABORER/DRIVER

Performs various landscaping services and related maintenance activities on residential or commercial properties using hand or power tools or equipment. 

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

◾Operates power equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, small chainsaws, clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.

◾Mows and edges lawns, using power mowers and edgers.

◾Blows debris from driveways, walkways and parking lots.

◾Cares for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls.

◾Uses tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge and brush trimmers, and axes.

◾Prunes and trims trees, shrubs, and hedges, using shears, pruners, or chainsaws.

◾Maintains, cleans and repairs tools and equipment.

◾Mixes and sprays or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.

◾Trims and removes dead plant material, and remove weeds from beds.

◾Checks irrigation to adjust the amount of water consumption and to prevent waste.

◾Follows landscape designs to determine where to lay sod, or plant flowers and foliage.

◾Plants seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch, using appropriate tools.

◾Hauls and/or spreads topsoil.

◾Collects and removes waste and other debris from job sites.

◾Safely operates company vehicles, abiding by all local, state, and federal laws.

CORE COMPETENCIES

Must be able to closely follow directions and perform proper maintenance, planting, and related processes for properties serviced by the Company.  Basic mechanical skills and knowledge of the proper use and care of all equipment and tools is required.  The position requires understanding and following strict safety standards and protocols as well as always wearing protective clothing and required safety equipment.  

The ideal candidate is responsible, reliable, self-motivated, detail oriented, efficient, and productive.  Must work well alone, and as part of a team.

The ability to speak and understand English sufficiently well enough to communicate with supervisors and understand work orders is required.

A safety-oriented mindset is critical and required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Education:

High School Diploma/GED is preferred but not required.

Experience:

Prior experience in landscape, grounds work, irrigation, and related work is preferred.

Licensing/Certifications:

A valid Florida driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required to drive Company vehicles to and from job sites during the work day. 

Physical Requirements:

Performing physical activities that require moving the whole body, such as in climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, crouching, and reaching by the significant use of the hands, arms and legs, and the physical handling of materials and equipment is required.  The ability to lift, push, pull, carry, or move up to fifty (50) pounds is necessary.

Exposure to a varied range of Florida weather conditions, as well as various insects when working in these environments is to be expected.  Contact with airborne particles, fumes, dust, environmental allergens, and lawn chemicals, as well as working in close proximity to the mechanical parts of equipment is typical.
