Plant Nursery Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Nursery Supervisor will work closely with the Operations Manager to oversee daily operations, manage nursery moisture, assist customers with orders, handle inventory, monitor plant quality, and build relationships with customers and vendors. This role involves supervising field teams, unloading/loading trucks, attending trade shows, and ensuring the availability of a wide range of plants and related products. The ideal candidate should have a high attention to detail, a commitment to accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

In addition to maintaining inventory and fulfilling purchase orders, the Nursery Supervisor will also manage irrigation systems, assist with local plant deliveries, and provide customers with plant recommendations. They will stay informed about new plant materials and their growth habits and requirements. The role also involves monitoring nursery stock for quality and quantity, organizing the nursery layout, and managing relationships with key suppliers. The Nursery Supervisor will also travel to trade shows and other sources to select and purchase top-quality products, review inventory levels regularly, and adjust pricing as needed. They will also learn to uphold departmental procedures, follow safety protocols, maintain business confidentiality, and drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.

REQUIREMENTS

• Experience in retail nursery preferred
• Degree in horticulture, agriculture or botany preferred
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
• Physical Strength and stamina to perform a role, maintaining ongoing, prolonged, physical activity throughout a scheduled day to include lifting 50+ pounds, comfort with noise levels, electrical, chemical, and fume hazards with or without a reasonable accommodation
• Must have the ability to work in an outdoor environment, including sun, heat, cold, wind, rain and higher noise levels
