Assistant Nursery Manager

We’re looking for a motivated and knowledgeable Assistant Nursery Manager to support daily operations at our wholesale nursery in Homestead, FL. If you’re passionate about native plants, thrive in outdoor work, and have experience in horticulture and team supervision, this could be the role for you.

 

As Assistant Nursery Manager, you’ll work side by side with our General Manager to help oversee production, lead staff, and ensure the overall health and quality of our plant inventory. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, improving processes, and fostering team success in a dynamic work environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and train nursery staff, creating a positive, productive team culture.
• Oversee daily plant care, including irrigation, fertilization, pruning, and pest/disease management.
• Coordinate with the Production and Office Managers to implement production schedules and maintain accurate inventory.
• Procure and manage materials and supplies, ensuring stock levels meet operational needs.
• Track and control operational costs, identifying areas for improvement and waste reduction.
• Maintain nursery equipment and irrigation systems; schedule and document regular maintenance.
• Promote and enforce safety standards, ensuring a clean, well-organized work environment.
• Interact with wholesale customers and support order fulfillment, collaborating with the sales team to meet customer needs.
• Contribute ideas and strategies to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support healthy plant production.

 

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a nursery, horticulture, or landscaping environment.
• Strong knowledge of South Florida native plants and ecologically appropriate Caribbean species; familiarity with ornamental palms and cycads a plus.
• Solid understanding of plant care practices and nursery production.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Comfortable working outdoors in South Florida weather, including high heat and humidity.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs and perform physical tasks.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.

 

Reports to: General Manager

Job Type: Full-time

 

Compensation Range: Starting at $80,000 per year commensurate with experience. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
