Equivalent experience in plant science, horticulture or related field.  One year of technical expertise in horticulture experience is required. 

Job Description: 

NATURE OF WORK:

This professional educational role with the Miami-Dade County Cooperative Extension, a partnership between UF/IFAS and the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Department, focuses on conducting landscape irrigation assessments for residential and commercial properties under the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Landscape Irrigation Rebate Program (LIRP). Responsibilities include assisting with LIRP invoice collection and submission to the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department, supporting the development and delivery of educational programs and outreach events, preparing reports, and performing related duties as assigned by the Residential Urban Horticulture Extension Agent and County Extension Director.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of sustainable landscaping and irrigation practices suitable for South Florida. Experience in developing educational materials, authoring publications, and delivering instruction is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and social media platforms is required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills across various formats (in-person, email, phone, and social media) are necessary. Familiarity with Cooperative Extension educational programs is preferred. Candidates must be capable of maintaining records, preparing reports, and performing physical tasks related to the role.

The position requires the ability to work in multicultural environments, a flexible schedule including some weekends, and extended periods outdoors. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
