This position performs a variety of skilled tasks focused on maintaining the health and appearance of Lukas Nursery & Butterfly Encounter through pest control and weed management. The Pest Control and Weed Application Technician is responsible for the safe and effective application of pesticides and herbicides in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. This individual will work both independently and with a team to service the nursery to ensure safety compliance and maintain accurate records of treatments. This is a full-time (30+ hours/week), non-exempt position, requiring weekday and occasional weekend hours. The role involves outdoor work in all weather conditions and the physical ability to routinely lift 50 lbs or more.

As a vital part of the Growing and Maintenance team, the technician plays a key role in ensuring customer satisfaction by protecting the nursery from harmful pests and invasive weeds. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and customer-focused with a strong knowledge of pest behavior and control methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply herbicides and pesticides safely and effectively to target pests and invasive weeds.
  • Identify and diagnose pest and weed issues and select appropriate treatment methods.
  • Maintain accurate treatment logs and service records.
  • Operate and maintain sprayers, backpack applicators, and other related equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate and document clearly with the growing manager about treatments, follow-up needs, and preventive measures.
  • Assist in inventory management of chemicals and supplies.
  • Support the team with other landscaping or maintenance duties as needed.
  • Represent the company professionally with a positive attitude and excellent customer service.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in pest control, weed management, or a related field.
  • Valid Florida pesticide applicator license preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Strong understanding of herbicide and pesticide usage, safety, and compliance.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management abilities.
  • Self-starter that can work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Must maintain professionalism and composure, even in challenging environments.
