Lead daily greenhouse and nursery operations, coach a small team and ensure our plants—and customers—thrive. You’ll own plant health, workflow and a great guest experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership: Schedule, train, and coach 4–12 associates; set priorities and oversee daily opening/closing checklists.
Plant Care: Manage irrigation cycles, fertilization and pest/disease scouting (IPM). Actively scout for any observed plant disease, insect infestation, animal damage and weed problems. Regular activities include weeding, grooming, pruning, deadheading, fertilizing, planting, repotting, debris removal and seasonal transitions.
Continued Education: Ongoing familiarity with all plant species under supervision and continually strive to improve horticultural plant knowledge.
Inventory: Receive and quality-check shipments, tag plants, track loss/shrink, and communicate reorders.
Customer service: Advise guests on plant selection, planting and care; Resolve issues and support special orders.
Safety & Compliance: Follow IPM protocols when managing pests and diseases. Enforce PPE/chemical handling (OSHA/EPA label compliance), equipment checks, and clean, accessible aisles.
Cross-functional: Coordinate with buyers, landscape/install teams and marketing on promotions & events.
Merchandising: Assist with the design and management of seasonal and other displays.
Records Management: Maintain plant records by providing current information to management including plant accessions, removals, transfers and label requirements.
Operations: Monitor & manage irrigation systems, shade/vent controls, frost protection and weather contingencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of two years of significant experience in garden center/nursery management.
Solid horticulture knowledge (annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, edibles and Florida natives).
Familiarity with IPM, fertilizers/soil media and diagnostics (nutrient deficiency, over/under-watering, pests, etc.)
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or related field; Florida Pesticide Applicators License or be able to obtain one within six months of employment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience in landscaping or horticulture-related work combined with a strong willingness to learn and interest in gardening will be considered.
SKILLS
Hands-on leader; clear communicator and trainer.
Strong organization and time management in fast, outdoor retail; Ability to multi-task and switch gears as needed.
Visual merchandising eye; customer-first problem solver.
Comfortable operating carts, dollies, hose reels, pruners and basic power equipment.
PHYSICAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS/SCHEDULE
Must be able to sustain moderate physical exertion with a full range of body motion for lifting up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to stand, bend and walk most of the shift.
Able to work outdoors in heat/rain/cold; early mornings, weekends and peak seasonal hours required.
Full-time, typically 40–45 hours per week with increased seasonal and/or holiday periods.
